The program was recorded December 17, 2009 at the Virginia Bioscience Business Roundtable, in Richmond. The event, sponsored by the Virginia Biotechnology Association and numerous national and statewide partners, was focused on the latest developments in the Virginia bioscience industry.

Dr. Stephan, a human geneticist, formerly served as the deputy director of discovery research at the Translational Genomics Research Institute, known as ldquo;T-Genrdquo;, in Arizona and was a co-founder and the former chief scientific officer of Navigenics, a personalized genetic testing company. He received his B.S. in Biology/Biochemistry from Carnegie Mellon University in 1991. He went on to obtain his Ph.D. in Human Molecular Genetics in 1996 from the University of Pittsburgh. Stephan completed a fellowship in 1999 at the National Human Genome Research Institute.

The Ignite Institute, to be located in Fairfax County, Virginia, will be a 300,000 square foot, $245 million personalized medicine institute that will employ more than 500 scientists by the time it is completed.

Intelliject LLC, based in Richmond, recently won a $230 million dollar exclusive licensing deal with sanofi-aventis U.S. for a novel epinephrine auto-injector. Under the license, sanofi-aventis U.S. shall be responsible for manufacturing and commercialization.

Casework Genetics recently signed a deal to locate its new 9,000 square foot corporate headquarters and forensics lab in Woodbridge, Virginia.

This interview was held on the eighth anniversary of the September 11th terrorist attacks. During the interview, Dr. McElfresh describes his experiences working on the forensic team assisting the Chief Medical Examinerrsquo;s attempts to identify thousands of victims who lost their lives at Ground Zero.

The host is Mark Herzog, executive director of the Virginia Biotechnology Association. The podcast lasts for approximately 20 minutes.</itunes:summary>

The two entrepreneurs founded ARG after working at several large Contract Research Organizations (CRO) and had a vision to create a CRO focused on providing clinical trial management services to small and mid-sized biotech and pharmaceutical companies.

Since its founding in July of 2005, ARG has managed more than 70 clinical trials encompassing almost 3,000 investigative sites and in excess of 40,000 subjects. The therapeutic focus of the company includes: Oncology, Immunology, Cardiovascular, Ophthalmology, Metabolic Disease, and Nephrology trials.

The host is Henry Wixon, a senior partner specializing in intellectual property issues at the law firm of WilmerHale in Washington, DC and a member of the board of directors of the Virginia Biotechnology Association. BIO represents more than 1,200 biotechnology companies, academic institutions, state biotechnology centers and related organizations across the United States and in more than 30 other nations. BIO members are involved in the research and development of innovative healthcare, agricultural, industrial and environmental biotechnology products.

Mr. Kelly briefed the subcommittee on the current status of the global bioscience industry, why states are competing so aggressively for biotech investment and jobs and where Virginia ranks in various indicators compared to competitor states. The Virginia General Assemblyacirc;euro;trade;s Joint Subcommittee on the Biosciences is chaired by Delegate Mark Sickles and Senator Janet Howell. The program lasts approximately 40 minutes. The host is Henry Wixon, a senior partner specializing in intellectual property issues at the law firm of WilmerHale in Washington, DC, and a member of the board of directors of the Virginia Biotechnology Association.

After leaving office, Mr. Schewel returned to his role as a partner at McGuireWoods where he serves as co-chair of the Mergers #38; Acquisitions, Securities #38; Corporate Services Department.

Secretary Schewelacirc;euro;trade;s presentation focuses on the activities of the Governoracirc;euro;trade;s Commission on Biotechnology, the recommendations that were made in the commissionacirc;euro;trade;s various reports, and his views on why the Commissionacirc;euro;trade;s recommendations failed to gain traction with policy-makers in the Virginia state government.
