To better serve our members and guests, VaBIO collects personal and non-personal information through our website, www.vabio.org, which is owned and operated by the Virginia Biotechnology Association (VaBIO). VaBIO is committed to protecting the privacy of its users. We have created this Privacy Statement in order to describe to users our information collection practice. When using protected areas of our website and you have not registered with us before, you will be asked to fill-out a personal profile with us only one time. This data is securely kept in a database so that you may login with your email address and password of your choice in the future. This way, you may download as much information and register to as many events without having to enter your personal information multiple times.
To participate in certain activities and to obtain certain services offered on this web site, a user is asked to provide varying amounts of personal information. Some information is mandatory while other information is discretionary. Each activity and service requires or requests different types of information in order for users to participate. Activities or services that require provision of personal information generally seek full name, email address, and phone number. Depending on the activity or service a user desires, we also may request personal information such as mailing address. We endeavor to limit our requests for personal details to information we believe is minimally necessary to achieve our stated purposes. When a user provides information about their company, it may be listed in our Virginia Bioscience Directory and/or in our on-line directory. At any time, a company may opt out of having their corporate information posted in the on-line directory.
Personal information is collected and used primarily for purposes such as facilitating a request. In addition to the primary purposes for which personal information is collected, we may use the personal information to contact a user as follows: to conduct internal surveys; to notify a user of new products or services that we think may be of interest; to send promotional materials; to provide our free email newsletter. We do not sell, rent, or otherwise dispose of the personal information collected on vabio.org to unaffiliated third parties. We may, however, disclose your personal information when required by law or in the good-faith belief that such disclosure is necessary to comply with law. Those submitting information acknowledge that by applying for membership, subscribing to our newsletter, and/or providing a mailing address, e-mail address, telephone and fax number, he or she has consented to receive communication sent by or on behalf of VaBIO (and its official partners, subsidiaries and affiliates) via regular mail, e-mail, telephone or facsimile transmittal. We use non-personal information such as demographic data to analyze and develop our marketing strategy. We use non-personal information to determine how you found out about us, what your interests are regarding our services, and how to further improve our site and our service towards you.
Our Privacy Statement applies solely to information collection practice on vabio.org. This web site contains links to other sites. Please be aware that VaBIO has no control or influence over the privacy practices of such other sites.
