The Virginia Biotechnology Association today announced that members and guests will be able to tour the laboratories of LifeNet Health, a full service biomedical tissue banking system and a leading non-profit organ and tissue donation agency.  The tour will take place on Tuesday, January 27 from 1:00-3:00 p.m. and will include an overview of the organization, tour of the facility and light refreshments.

“LifeNet Health is the largest bioscience company in Hampton Roads,” said Virginia Biotechnology Association Executive Director Mark Herzog. “Our attendees will have the exclusive opportunity to see how LifeNet has become a leader in alloengineering.”

LifeNet Health was founded in 1982 and is headquartered in Virginia Beach.  With its 585 employees, and 300 volunteers representing donor families and recipients, LifeNet Health coordinates the recovery and placement of organs, teaches the public about donation, and handles a bereavement program for donor families.

As part of its commitment to advancing allografts and the field of tissue banking, the Bio-Implants Division has developed key innovations such as proprietary and patented cleaning, demineralization, and composite allograft technologies and currently holds more than 40 patents.  “What we do is really a combination of high touch and high technology” explains Doug Wilson, executive vice president of LifeNet Health.

Through the acquisition of six acres adjacent to the facility, LifeNet Health will soon be expanding the physical facilities.

The tour is co-sponsored by Eastern Virginia Medical School and the Hampton Roads Research Partnership.  Space is limited and advanced registration required. Please click here to register.
