VA Healthcare Innovators Call for Nominations

The 2013 Virginia Healthcare Innovators Awards honor Virginia providers and organizations/entities that have developed innovative ways to improve quality and/or efficiency. The Virginia Chamber of Commerce will once again host the awards event at its Virginia Health Care Conference on June 6, 2013.  Virginia Bio once again is partnering with Virginia Healthcare Innovators in recognizing innovators in the category “Medical Product or Device”.

Enhancements have been made to this year’s program.  Finalists will be featured in a printed booklet distributed at the awards event. All non-winning finalists will also receive a certificate plaque memorializing their achievement in their category. As in the past, winners will be presented with an award during the event program.

Nominations are now underway, and until April 12, 2013, will be accepted via an online form. Please consider nominating organizations/entities that you feel have developed breakthrough products, processes or services with the potential to revolutionize healthcare in Virginia. Self-nominations and repeat prior nominations are permitted, even of previous winners. Prior nominees are eligible; however, only if the innovation has demonstrated success/significant external validation since January 1, 2012 (e.g., improved patient outcomes, cost savings, improved access to care, successful clinical trial, regulatory approval, obtained funding, etc.).

Leadership, demonstrated through excellence in innovation, will be judged in each of the following categories:

  • Patient Care: For organizations/entities that either furnish patient care services directly (e.g., hospitals, physician groups, ASCs, clinical laboratories, etc.) or that support the provision of direct patient care services (e.g., clinical research organizations, quality improvement organizations, etc.).
  •  Medical Product or Device: For organizations/entities involved in the development, manufacture or distribution of medical products or devices (e.g., pharmaceuticals, biologicals, medical devices, etc.).
  •  Health Information Technology: For organizations/entities involved in the development, distribution or implementation of HIT (e.g., clinical information systems, EHRs, telehealth, etc.).
  •  Employee Health: For organizations/entities that have implemented innovative ways to improve the health of their covered employees and dependents through patient education and behavior modification, and worked to effect the delivery of care to improve access, quality and/or outcomes (e.g., employer health programs, employee assistance programs, etc.).

A panel of judges, comprising representatives of the member organizations and other healthcare professionals, will review the nominations and select the winners. We invite you to be a part of this exciting way to recognize Virginia organizations/entities that dedicate themselves to improving quality and enhancing the efficiency of healthcare delivery to the Commonwealth’s citizens.
