WilmerHale LLP Joins VaBIO as Strategic Partner
WilmerHale LLP, an international law firm with more than 1,000 lawyers located in 11 cities in the United States, Europe and Asia, announced this month that they have joined the Virginia Biotechnology Association (VaBIO) as a Strategic Partner.
“The Strategic Partnership with VaBIO is an important step
for our firm,” said Henry Wixon, a partner at the firm whose practice involves counseling start-up and small-to-medium size biotechnology companies on intellectual property and technology transfer issues. “The number of new companies spinning out from Virginia universities is remarkable and these companies are in need of support.” A registered patent attorney, Mr. Wixon works with pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies to procure and enforce patent protection for key corporate technology assets.
The Virginia Biotechnology Association launched the “Strategic Partner” initiative as a way to enhance the services the Association can provide to the emerging bioscience industry in the state.
“We are looking to enhance our one-on-one support to any bioscience company that is looking for new investors, facilities, legal or accounting advice,” said Maciek Sasinowski, CEO of Incogen and chairman of the VaBIO board of directors. “Relationships are the key to building strong companies and our Strategic Partners are the foundation of this new initiative.”
Mark Herzog, executive director of VaBIO, said that the new program is already off to a strong start. “Working directly with our CEOs is the core of this new effort and the Strategic Partners are our strongest asset. Other blue chip organizations will be joining the effort this summer to make this program a success.”
